Shelter in Place

My brother just called. His son is with a group of about 200 other students locked down.

Here's the Google News feed to keep up.

I'll be back with more.

UPDATE: Need you ask?

I guess the deck is stacked against this proven-effective reaction.

UPDATE: Columbus Police Dispatch scanner.

UPDATE: Shelter in place lifted per police dispatch. Hundreds of students out. Still in process of clearing garage. It looks like they were let out before all the cops were ready. Classes cancelled for day.

UPDATE: Relaying information -- police clearing 4th floor of building needed to be advised that others were clearing 5th floor.

UPDATE: Car dispatched -- someone called 911 saying he was going to kill people. 136 W. Woodruff...

UPDATE:
The situation was initially deemed an "active shooting", though there have since been reports that the suspect used a long knife or machete, and the gunshots may have come from police.
UPDATE: And this is what happens when the system is set up to spread hoplophobia:
At least eight people were stabbed, hit by a vehicle or otherwise injured in an attack Monday morning on the Ohio State University campus, and a suspect was shot, school and hospital officials said. Police did not immediately release the suspect's condition and gave no details on a possible motive. Hospital officials said the eight victims had non-life-threatening injuries.
So much for smiley-face blood-dancing wishful thinking opportunism:

And her avatar says "God is Love"! For "progressives," every day is Opposite Day.

UPDATE: Who could'a seen this coming?

and:
The dead attacker was believed to be an Ohio State student — a Somali refugee who lived near campus, NBC News reported. It said he was a legal permanent resident of the U.S.
Well then, there's really only one thing left to say:

Rigorous.

UPDATE: What's in a name?

A university campus is full of disarmed targets. Perfect place for some wacko to go on a killing spree with no fear of an armed citizen putting a stop to it. I never leave the house without my concealed pistol. All it would take is ONE ARMED Citizen to stop this madness.

Heavens to Murgatroyd!

And here I was looking forward to the hand wringing, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I (mostly) avoided jumping to conclusions, but I am not surprised. Mentally unstable, unhinged leftists was another assumption.

CNN this afternoon was discussing the "Run, Hide, Fight" strategy relative to this use of an automobile and edged weapon to attack people at OSU - another Gun-Free Zone. Today my e-mail had a link to another discussion of this "Run, Hide, Fight" strategy that is worth reading as it describes the strategy as an example of political correctness that can get people killed:

I am too old and slow to run fast and know that I cannot outrun a bullet, a motorized vehicle, or anyone in better shape. I am too big to hide easily. Besides, pulling the bed covers over my head does not appeal to me as a useful solution to the problem. That leaves the last option to me. So, do I and others like me that come to the same conclusion, get arrested for weapons possession in a Gun-Free Zone or do we remove Gun-Free Zones as a misguided attempt to help the ignorant feel "safer"?

A wonderful example to shove down the throats of gun-haters who sneer, “When was the lst time you heard of a drive-by stabbing?”

Take their lead: never let a crisis go unused.

Ed- Over at Knuckledraggin, Kenny posted a picture of a sign in a school parking lot. It shows the silhouette of a person with a gun and text that reads 'Staff is armed and trained. Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force.'

It occurred to me- what says you care more for the children you are responsible for: that sign, or one that reads 'This school is a gun free zone'?
