We're the Only Ones Communal Enough

"I don't think this has anything to do with the second amendment rights when you have the right to carry a weapon off your property," said Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriffs' Association, Bobby Timmons.  "An automobile is not a part of your home. It's a part of the public property." [More]
I was going to add some comments but noticed the date on this piece and saw I already had. What the hell though, most of you probably never saw it and right now is a good time to treat ourselves to some vintage Vanderboegh.

So I'm sure he'd not have issues with one of us borrowing one of his "public property" patrol cars for a while?

Let’s examine a few things:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” –First Amendment, U.S. Constitution

Nothing there about on or off your own property or in your automobile.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” -Second Amendment, U.S. Constitution

Nothing there about on or off your own property or in your automobile in that, either.

So, would it be appropriate for this sheriff and his deputies to consider that everyone is free to assert their rights on or off their own properties or in their automobiles?
